چکیده

Abstract Background Toxicities of Vernonia amygdalina and Tithonia diversifolia leaf powders extracts on larva adult mortality Dermestes maculatus smoke-dried catfish were evaluated in the laboratory. The admixed at 1, 3, 6, 9 12 g/100 g smoked 500 ml plastic container while plant tested 12% concentrations. Results toxicities products concentrations exposure time dependent. Significant difference ( P < 0.05) existed between toxicity V. T. control. powder evoked 27.5, 40, 52.7, 60 82.5% larval mortalities various after 24 h catfishes to powder. Similarly, caused 20, 30, 42.5, 52.5 77.5% varying intervals achieved 100% dosage 96 treatment. Similar trend was response both as protectants against hide beetle. Conclusion extract more lethal than bitter amygdalina) could be integrated fish protectant beetle D. maculatus) .

The importance of carcass volatiles as attractants for the hide beetle Dermestes maculatus (De Geer).

A decaying cadaver emits volatile organic compounds that are used by necrophilous and necrophagous insects in order to find their brood substrate. Although volatile organic compounds (VOCs) that are released by carcasses have been identified, little is known about the specific compounds that are used by these insects while searching for a brood substrate. Therefore, we have investigated the che...

Potential of four tropical plant powders as grain protectants against Callosobruchus maculatus (Coleoptera: Chrysomelidae)

Effects of four tropical plant (Aframomum melegueta, Zanthoxylum zanthoxyloides, Piper guineense and Eugenia aromatica) were investigated under tropical laboratory storage conditions for the protection of cowpea seeds against insect infestation. The plant materials were pulverised into fine powder after air drying and admixed with 20 g of cowpea seeds at the ...

Influence of substrate and relative humidity on the efficacy of three entomopathogenic fungi for the hide beetle, Dermestes maculatus (Coleoptera, Dermestidae)

Dermestes maculatus De Geer (Coleoptera: Dermestidae) is a carrion feeder that is also a pest of poultry houses, museums, silkworm culture, and many stored foods. The Hypocreales, Beauveria bassiana (Balsamo) Vuillemin, Metarhizium anisopliae (Metschnikoff), and Isaria fumosorosea Wize, were tested for efficacy against D. maculatus larvae on concrete, plastic, leather, and wood surfaces. Only w...

Responses of growth rates and growth hormone levels of African catfish (Clarias gariepinus) to stocking density

In order to estimate responses of growth rate and growth hormone of Clarias gariepinus to stocking density, fish (initial weight 30.71 ± 0.89 g) were stocked in 120-L tanks at densities of 35, 65, 95, and 125 kg/m3 for 60 days. On day 30 and 60, the fish growth rates were measured, pituitary growth hormone (GH) mRNA levels and serum GH concentrations were examined by real-time qPCR and ELISA te...
